Why did my drive fail?
We categorize failures as one of the following:

‣Mechanical failure- Often drives fail on their own when one of the internal mechanisms of the drive dies. The drive might make clicking sounds or not spin up at all which can often lead to further damage if left unchecked.

‣Logical Failure- Sometimes the drive mechanics might be in good condition and can still spin up, but the data integrity has failed or the files are corrupted. Commonly such failures include accidentally deleting or formatting a drive, file corruption, software errors or lost partitions.
What do I do?
The most important thing to do is to turn off your computer or device to prevent further damage. Do not power up the system again and disconnect the hard drive power. Do not attempt to use data recovery software and do not disassemble the drive on your own as this can cause irreversible damage.
